InfoMagic Internet Tools CD-ROM
April 1995
This disc contains a collection of packages and utilities for managing
and operating hosts on the internet using both TCP/IP and OSI/ISO
protocols. The directory layout is shown in the files index.unx (for
UNIX(tm)) and index.dos (for MS-DOS(r)).
The disc is mastered with Rock Ridge extensions and all files have
been left with their long mixed case filenames. For systems that do
not support the Rock Ridge extensions a translation table is provided
in each directory (YMTRANS.TBL) which shows the original filename and
the ISO-9660 alias. Files in the dos_win directory tree all have
ISO-9660 compliant names so DOS users will be able to access them more
easily. The one exception is the source for gzip which has its full
UNIX(tm) name (gzip-1.2.4.tar.gz).
The files "ls_lr.*" are an exhaustive listing of every file on the CD
and are provided in both unix(tm) format (lines end with LF) and
MS-DOS(r) format (lines end with CRLF). The Unix(tm) format file is
ls_lr.unx and the MS-DOS(r) format file is ls_lr.dos.
We have provided a directory under "dos_win" called "onthenet" that
contains a subset of the Microsoft Windows(tm) applications
sufficient to establish a SLIP or PPP connection to an Internet
Provider and perform all the usual Internet tasks (mail, news, ftp,
and WWW browsing). Each of these packages is supplied as a "zip"
file (pkunzip is in "dos_win\tools") and each contains both the
executable and intallation and configuration notes. Several of these
are Shareware as are many of the applications in the "dos_win\winsock\apps"
directory and the following terms apply:
The term Shareware describes a marketing method in which copyrighted
programs circulate freely among users for the purpose of evaluation.
This gives you the option to "Try Before You Buy". The author of a
Shareware program typically allows you to try the program for up to
30 days before payment is required. The exact terms of evaluation
vary from author to author, so be sure to check the documentation of
the programs you evaluate.
The fee you pay to InfoMagic, Inc. is a distribution fee and does not
cover the cost of the program itself. Programs which are used beyond
the author's prescribed evaluation period require a separate payment
to the author. By making payment to the author you obtain a lefal
right to use the software, and encourage the continued development of
quality software within the Shareware channel.
The process of paying for Shareware is termed "registration". The
exact benefits of registration vary from author to author, but many
authors will offer one or more of the following: a current version,
technical support, a printed manual, free of discounted upgrades,
bonus utilities or special offers. Consult the registration
information included with each program for specific details.
Some of the packages on this CD are covered by the General Public
License, a copy of which is in the file COPYING in the root directory.
